A deeper search review
A practical way to evaluate Shopify search.
A quick demo helps you see the shopper experience. Use this checklist when you want to review setup, product data, different kinds of searches, and what happens after a shopper finds a result.
Seven checks, one clear picture
Follow the search from setup to product page.
- 01
Install ParticleSearch
Open Shopify installWhat to do
Install ParticleSearch from the Shopify App Store and confirm the app opens for the store you intend to use.
Ready when
Shopify returns to ParticleSearch for that store without an install or permission error.
Keep a note
Store domain, date and time, and any message Shopify shows when the app opens.
- 02
Turn on search in your live theme
Open a demo storefrontWhat to do
In Shopify theme settings, enable the ParticleSearch app embed and save the published theme. Open the storefront in the market and on the device you want to check.
Ready when
Search appears on the published theme and can reach your store without a storefront or theme error.
Keep a note
Theme name, market, device, storefront URL, and a dated screenshot or screen recording.
- 03
Check that your products are up to date
Open demo dashboardWhat to do
In ParticleSearch, check the catalog update time, product count, sync state, and search readiness before judging a result.
Ready when
The expected products are eligible and your store is searching the catalog version you are testing.
Keep a note
Catalog update time, product count, sync and readiness states, and the next step if anything is out of date.
- 04
Try the searches shoppers actually use
Choose a query setWhat to do
Try an exact product or part number, a broad category, a colour or option, and a common alternate phrase or typo.
Ready when
The expected products appear for the shopper task. Check the result order, filters, and response time.
Keep a note
Search terms, products you expected, visible results, response time, device, market, and any mismatch.
- 05
Test a typo or a search with no match
Review the recovery pathWhat to do
Try a controlled typo or a phrase that should not match. See whether search offers a helpful next step and makes clear when it has not found an exact match.
Ready when
Search either finds relevant products or clearly shows that it found no match, with a useful next step.
Keep a note
The search term, products or suggestion shown, next action, and whether it led to the product you expected.
- 06
Open a product and keep shopping
Open a storefrontWhat to do
Open a result and check the product, price, availability, options, and the path to product details or cart.
Ready when
The product page matches the result and shoppers can continue to the next step they need.
Keep a note
Product name or SKU, selected option, price and availability, page or cart action, and what happened next.
- 07
Review what your team can act on
Open merchant evidenceWhat to do
Compare what the shopper saw with the related search activity and catalog status in ParticleSearch. Decide whether the next step is a product-data update or a search change.
Ready when
A teammate can repeat the same search, see what happened, and understand the next step.
Keep a note
Store, date, search terms, expected and observed products, related dashboard details, and who owns the next step.
Read the whole journey
A search result is one part of the experience.
If an expected product is missing, first check that its details are present in Shopify and that the product is available to shoppers. Then repeat the same search and compare what changed.
Keep product matches, shopper actions, and order activity separate when reviewing results. A search that leads to an order is useful path evidence, but it does not by itself show that search caused an additional sale.
How to compare a search change
Use the same searches before and after a change. Check what changed in the results and what shoppers did next.
-
Choose a date range and write down the searches that matter to your store.
-
Check that your product details and availability are current before judging results.
-
Compare product clicks and orders linked to search. Note what your order tracking covers.
-
Repeat the same searches after a change. Treat early results as a signal, not proof that the change caused more sales.
What the result can tell you
Check which store and dates a result covers before using it to make a decision.
Checked in a store
Observed on a real storefront
It applies to the store, products, searches, and dates that were checked.
Example only

More store information is needed
A store-specific result needs the relevant search activity and order tracking from your store.
