Adaptive search journeys

Let the query shape the next useful step.

ParticleSearch adjusts content placement and related suggestions to the shopping job in the current query, while keeping products, evidence, and shopper control visible.

The response decision

One search surface, several ways to help.

The query provides evidence about the immediate job. The interface uses that evidence to reduce distraction or add guidance where it is useful.

The merchant answer

A shopper entering a SKU, a broad need, and a how-to question should not receive the same arrangement of products, content, and suggestions. Adaptive search changes the response shape around the job without turning the storefront into a chatbot or asking the shopper to trust an unexplained score.

Guides and field notes

Go deeper when the decision needs detail.

Use these practical guides for the context, merchant decisions, and acceptance tests behind the capability you are evaluating.

The path

Match the amount of guidance to the amount of uncertainty.

Adaptive presentation is useful when it preserves focus for a precise query and supplies orientation for a query that genuinely needs explanation or refinement.

01

Read the shopping job

Use the query shape and available result evidence to distinguish precise lookup, focused comparison, refinement, open discovery, and informational intent.

02

Compose the response

Keep exact searches focused, place useful content earlier for explicit learning intent, and retain related suggestions when they can help a shopper continue.

03

Preserve a clear choice

Products, content, and next steps remain visibly distinct. The shopper can inspect the answer instead of being asked to accept hidden reasoning.

Questions this capability should answer

Use these questions to decide whether this capability is the right next move for your store.

1

When should search remove choices?

When the query carries strong identity evidence, fewer unrelated paths protect speed and reduce the chance of pulling the shopper away from the intended item.

2

When should content lead?

Only when the wording clearly asks for explanation, guidance, policy, or another informational answer that makes the later product decision safer.

3

How should a merchant judge the adaptation?

Test representative query families and inspect the visible response. The question is whether the next step became clearer, not whether the interface looked more intelligent.

What is included

A response that changes shape without changing the truth

The capability controls presentation around the current search. Product eligibility, ranking evidence, availability, and merchant settings still define what can responsibly appear.

Built around a merchant decision
01

Focused exact lookup

Reduce unrelated suggestion paths when a query already identifies a product, variant, model, or other precise target.

02

Intent-aware content placement

Place pages or articles before products when a query clearly asks to learn, while keeping buying results primary for ordinary product discovery.

03

Useful continuation paths

Show related searches when another query could help a shopper refine or explore, and suppress them when they would distract from a precise answer.

04

Visible match evidence

Optionally explain a non-title match with one compact SKU, option, brand, type, or detail line rather than an opaque relevance score.

05

Merchant-owned inputs

Content search and product-card evidence remain merchant controlled, so adaptive presentation cannot expose a surface that has not been enabled.

06

Observable shopper response

Review searches, refinements, product actions, and content use to learn whether the response shape helped the shopper move forward.

A useful boundary

Good product decisions include what the feature cannot solve.

ParticleSearch gives your team more evidence and control. It does not remove the need for accurate product data, a clear merchandising goal, or a review of the result on your own store.

  • Adaptive presentation does not create missing product evidence, market eligibility, availability, or trustworthy content. It can only arrange eligible material already supplied by the store.
  • Query wording is evidence, not certainty about a person. The interface should keep products, content, and suggestions distinguishable and avoid claiming to know hidden shopper intent.
  • Exact identifiers and hard constraints still need precision tests. Broader discovery behaviour must not weaken a known-item search.
