Merchandising and campaigns

Put the right products in context when the moment matters.

ParticleSearch gives merchant teams a controlled way to shape product visibility for a query, collection, market, audience, or campaign without turning temporary commercial intent into permanent search behaviour.

The campaign control path

Commercial intent becomes a bounded rule.

The useful question is not “How do we make this product rank first everywhere?” It is “Where, for whom, and for how long should this change apply?”

The merchant answer

Merchandising is not a substitute for relevance. It is the layer you use when the catalogue is healthy but the business context needs a deliberate, visible change: a seasonal campaign, a collection launch, a market-specific priority, or a product that should be temporarily promoted or withheld.

Guides and field notes

Go deeper when the decision needs detail.

Use these practical guides for the context, merchant decisions, and acceptance tests behind the capability you are evaluating.

The path

Turn a commercial goal into a controlled search change.

Good merchandising keeps the shopper’s query meaningful while making the business context explicit, reviewable, and temporary when it should be.

01

Name the commercial moment

Start with the campaign, collection, market, audience, or product context. Write down the shopper query and the outcome the change is meant to support.

02

Choose the smallest scope

Apply a ranking action, curated placement, or campaign message only where the evidence supports it. Keep exact identifiers and unrelated queries protected.

03

Schedule, observe, and retire

Give temporary rules an end date, review the result and operational signals, then pause, renew, or remove the rule deliberately.

Questions this capability should answer

Use these questions to decide whether this capability is the right next move for your store.

1

Is this a relevance problem or a commercial decision?

Fix missing fields, variants, availability, or query language first. Use merchandising when the result is eligible but the business context justifies a scoped change.

2

Should this rule apply everywhere?

Usually not by default. Choose the query, collection, market, audience, or experiment context that matches the reason for the change.

3

When should the rule stop?

If the change supports a launch or promotion, give it an end date and record the observation window. A rule without an owner or review date becomes difficult to trust.

What is included

Controls for deliberate product visibility

Each control answers a different merchandising question. Keeping them distinct prevents a campaign objective from quietly changing the whole search system.

Built around a merchant decision
01

Pin, boost, move lower, or hide

Change product order for a focused query or context when the business decision is about visibility, not missing catalogue evidence.

02

Campaign banners and placements

Attach a message, call to action, or curated product group to the search context where a campaign is relevant.

03

Market and audience scope

Target a market, customer segment, or experiment variant instead of publishing a global rule for a local commercial need.

04

Effective dates and expiry

Make the start and end of a campaign explicit so temporary intent does not become permanent ranking debt.

05

Priority and conflict review

Keep overlapping rules visible and resolve their priority before a merchant treats the combined result as intentional.

06

Outcome review

Return to query engagement, product interaction, order context, and operational health after the change rather than judging a rule by clicks alone.

A useful boundary

Good product decisions include what the feature cannot solve.

ParticleSearch gives your team more evidence and control. It does not remove the need for accurate product data, a clear merchandising goal, or a review of the result on your own store.

  • Merchandising cannot make an unavailable, unpublished, or incorrectly described product trustworthy. Eligibility and catalogue quality still come first.
  • Pinning or boosting a product can improve visibility while reducing exposure for another product. Protect exact identifiers and review the affected query set.
  • Campaign performance is context, not automatic proof of incremental lift. Compare the intended outcome with the traffic, product, and order evidence available for that scope.
